OUR EXECUTIVE TEAM

Fritz von Tagen CEO

A commercial photographer by trade, Fritz opened Northern Light Studio in Portland, Oregon in 1984. Within just a few years, Northern Light became one of the premier commercial and aerial photography studios in the Northwest. The first Pro Cyc modules were developed by Fritz in 1988 out of a need to create a better “eggshell” cyclorama for his own studio. At that time, the only way to build a cyclorama studio was with wood and drywall. That process was (and still is) extremely time-consuming, messy and the results were very imperfect. To solve this problem, Fritz had molds created and produced the original cove parts out of fiberglass. At the urging of his father, he patented the designs and called it Pro Cyc, derived from “professional cyclorama”. A few short years later, some colleagues in the technology industry suggested that his cycloramas would be perfect for the budding virtual reality / chroma key (e.g. green screen) industry. They were right, as that industry currently makes up a majority of Pro Cyc’s clientele. Since that time, Fritz continues to improve and design new systems to meet the needs of the photography and video industries, and he continues to follow his father’s advice, patenting each new design along the way.

Sean von Tagen President

As the son of the founder and CEO, Sean has essentially been around Pro Cyc since the beginning. Sean was still in high school when Fritz developed the first patents and cove molds in 1988. However, Sean did not join the company until 2007, after he had spent the better part of the previous two decades learning and developing his own approach to starting and growing small businesses, including two online companies which were eventually sold to larger companies. Like his father before him, Sean is also a professional photographer. His knowledge of the importance of proper lighting and expertise in both the photography and video industries play a key role in new product development and understanding customers’ needs. With a strong background in both Finance and Business Administration, Sean brings a relational and forward-looking approach to running the business, and is consistently making sure that Pro Cyc remains on the cutting edge, while at the same time listening to the evolving needs and goals of the expanding base of Pro Cyc customers.
